Which women’s golf shoe style is better, spiked or spikeless?

Women’s golf shoes typically come in two styles, spiked golf shoes and spikeless golf shoes. Both styles are designed to provide traction on the course but which to wear will depend on your game and playing style. Women’s spikeless golf shoes offer more versatility, allowing you to wear the shoes to and from the course, as well as during your round, without compromising on performance and comfort. Spikeless golf shoes have specially designed outsoles to generate grip and traction on the course but are still wearable on harder surfaces. Women’s spiked golf shoes however have removable cleats on the sole which provide better traction on the course to support the swing and generate more power, though they are designed to be worn solely on the golf course. Golf shoe style is a question of personal preference and fitting the shoe into your game and lifestyle, both provide the required performance on the course.

How do I know if I am wearing the right size of women’s golf shoe?

The size of your women’s golf shoe is very important, we recommend that you get properly fitted before purchasing a pair of FootJoy golf shoes. If you are wearing the wrong size golf shoe, you will see visible signs on the shoe including the leather bunching, heel pocket and insole excessive wear, and the lace eyelets being too far apart or too close when done up. Research has shown that wearing the right fitting golf shoe can improve your golf performance by 6-21%. We also know that over 70% of golfers are currently wearing the wrong size and it could be affecting their game without them knowing.

Is it important to have the right fitting women’s golf shoe?

Wearing the right fitting women’s golf shoe is proven to improve your swing force up to 21%, this results in more control and more power when swinging the club, improving your performance on the course. Wearing the right size golf shoe will also reduce friction inside the shoe, stopping your foot from moving around, which often results in blistering and discomfort. Foot movement inside the shoe will also stretch the materials and have a negative effect on the shape of the shoe, making it look worn quicker. A properly fitted golf shoe should mean that your feet stay comfortable for the whole round and stay looking newer for longer.

What women’s golf shoe size shoe should I buy?

FootJoy offer shoe fitting events across the country, allowing customers to get properly fitted using a Brannock device by a professional shoe fitter. We recommend you visit your local pro shop or attend a shoe fitting event to find out your correct foot length and width. If you are not able to get to a FootJoy shoe fitting event or your local pro shop, there are a number of checks you can complete yourself, before you make a purchase, to see if you are currently wearing the right size: -

  1. Check that the opening at the top of your shoe is no more than 2cm apart. The height of your foot arch or general hight can affect this, but it is a good starting point.
  2. Check that there is a ½” of space left between the end of your shoe and your longest toe.
  3. Check the flex of your foot, the break of the shoe should sit perfectly with the flex of your forefoot.
  4. Listen closely as your put on your shoe, if your foot fits the volume of the shoe correctly when you insert it, you should hear a ‘whoosh’ sound.
  5. Check the shoe for movement when you walk around or practice a swing. Any movement indicates a poorly fitted shoe.
